My family is thinking about going on a vacation to Gulf Shores with another family next summer. I need info on area attractions, places to eat, where to stay, things like that. There will be for kids on the trip; ages 13, 12, 11, and 9. I realize this is has nothing to do with cruising, but I thought I would get more answers here.

  1. Gulf Shores/Orange Beach has tons of condos to stay in, but book early depending on the week you want.

Attractions for kids include Waterville, Zooland (profiled in the Animal Planet series The Little Zoo that Could), great beaches which have been for the most part restored after the storms, lots of smaller attractions, plenty of seafood restaurants of varying quality, great fishing, dolphin tours, etc.  Fort Morgan can be fairly interesting for a few hours, and Pensacola about an hour away offers the Naval Aviation Museum which is really pretty cool.

  2. I would get in touch with the Chamber of Commerce.  Also verify if the beaches have been replenished; they were washed out over 15 ft by Hurricane Katrina, thus no beaches.....

  3. I answered this question for you in the other category, but if your interested in cruises, the Carnival Holiday departs nearby Mobile.  Also, New Orleans is a 3 hour trip away and may justify one of your days.  By the way, our beach extends about 400 feet out, we don't play around with keeping this economic engine well maintained.  Try to take your tourism answers from locals (I have'nt been on a gulf beach in at least 12 hours).  Muse is right on about Ft. Morgan and P'cola NAS, but Zooland is a zoo themed mini-golf course, you will have to pass it and enter the zoo from Doc's Seafood parking lot.
