Jay - Z says he is from the gutter, and america understands. Movado says he is 'from the gullyside' and america doesn't get it.

1. Which is safer and cleaner? gullyside or gutter?

2. What is the 'gullyside'? And why exactly can you always find movado there?

  1. Movado is refering to a specific place. He is from cassava piece and there's bottom cassava piece and top cassava piece which is divided by a gully which is where he hangs out.

  2. 1. neither one is safer as they both mean the same thing. It basicall means ghetto.

    2. so...gullyside is the same thing as gutter. movado can always be found there because thats where he spends time with his frens and thats where he is from.

  3. Essentially they mean the same thing and is meant to invoke the suffering low-income individuals face which depending on your outlook, those adversities could be heightened by being black.

Movado's gullyside is also literal. There is a large gully that runs close to where he is from and many young men from that area hang out along the bank or side of the gully.

Americans may not get it because they don't know what a gully is; I have never seen one here. It is hard to understand a metaphor if you have no clue what the literal thing is.
