Question:

Gum / Tooth infected ! Dentist tomorrow for filling. PLEASE HELP !?

hey everyone !

Okay so tomorrow i have a dentist appointment for a couple fillings but my gum / tooth started hurting last night and its making it so my ear hurts too, I dont know if i have a infection or what and if i do will they still do the filling on my other tooth ? SHould i tell the dentist about this before he does the filling just in case its a infection ? Please help me out , what should i say to him ? It hurts really bad so i believe its a infection but what if he tells me no it isnt. ? Please help me out ! Thanks everyone !

  1. Yes, you definitely should tell the dentist that it's hurting.  Like the other person said, if it is causing that much pain you may need a root canal (or more).  

    If you don't tell the dentist, when s/he gets in there the decay will likely be deep and if the tooth needs a root canal or more, it'll just take longer to treat, be more complicated, etc, so it is best to be open upfront so your dentist can inform you of what's going on and can let you know what is going to happen.

    Either way, you will be anesthetized before the work is done, so whatever they have to do shouldn't hurt.  

    Probably too much information, but often times root canals don't hurt, and it will get rid of the pain (if one is needed).

  2. No....it is a much better idea to keep the person who is trying to help you out, in the dark.  The less they know the better.

    OF COURSE tell the dentist what is going on with you.  If the tooth is infected it needs a root canal or an extraction, not just a filling.  If you didn't tell the dentist and they just did a filling, you would be going back to get the proper work done in very short order and paying twice for it.
