I have gm disease and lost 2 tooth already. It use to be very red red color. Now that I'm starting to worry, I brushed my teeth more often and longer. My gum became a more pinkish color and still have some red. What does this mean?

  1. It means that your gums are getting better, but still not completely healthy.

    What does your dentist say?

  2. See a dental hygienist asap.  You still have the red inflamed colour to your gums because of the deposits that are sitting around the tooth below the gum line.. it's kind of like when you get a splinter in your finger and don't remove it...the tissues become inflamed..remove the splinter...tissues heal.

Also we now know that the bacteria,  in your mouth travels around the rest of your body so for your general health it helps to have healthy gums.

It's not a great sign if you have already lost a couple of teeth to periodontal disease, but often if the bone levels are good around the other teeth they can be saved.  I would recommend using a soft toothbrush and brushing at a 45deg angle to the gum line for 2 min...even better get a electric tooth brush.  Try dipping dental floss into mouthwash and gently working it under the gums.  You wont get rid of the hard deposits that have built up...but you will prevent new calcus from forming. Then get yourself along to a dental clinic, a few appointments to try and save your teeth is well worth it it the long run.

  3. You, my friend, have gingivitis.  You are not flossing or brushing properly.  You probably have an active infection of your gums that you need to take care of now.  Look up http://www.perioprotect.com/doctor_info.... and see if there is someone near you.  It's not cheap.. but what is the price you are wanting to pay for you teeth ??  The DDS I work for uses them.  I am new to the office and it sounds like a good idea... not sure about effectiveness yet.  Good luck... try rinsing with Peroxide or warm salt water a few times a day. And if you aren't already.. go see a dentist.
