  1. In gummy smile correction or gum contouring, the excess gum is surgically removed and you get stiches in the area. It results in your (shorter) teeth looking longer and proportionate. Gums stay in the new position and do not grow back. But if you already have proper sized teeth, they may start looking too long after gum surgery. So you may have to get tooth contouring done as well for which the downside is necessity of crowns. If your gummy smile is due to maxilla excess, then you have to consider getting jaw surgery done.
