Question:

Gun Culture of America?

How bad is the gun culture in America? Are firearms really as accessible as what they seem to be? I have just watched the movie Elephant (about a school shooting) and it seemed to confirm my ideas that Americans can so easily get hold of a gun, and underage Americans for that matter.

Why is this so?

  1. bet they didn't have metal detectors in that school

  2. Not that bad.  I think teaching people about gun safety and raising your children to be respectful to other people are higher priorities than blaming an inanimate object for violence.

If guns didn't exist and I wanted to kill a lot of people by buying things from local markets within a 2 mile distance from my house I could easily do that.  Blow torch, thermite, propane tank..

See I know how but will I?  No.  I was raised to be respectful and I'm educated to handle and operate firearms with respect to their ability and respect to our own vulnerability.

If you have no criminal record and you are of age, you should have no problem buying a fire arm and I don't have a problem with this.  I would support someone who forces people to take a safety course.  But politicians seem to take it to the extreme by saying we should make guns illegal.. At that rate we will all need to wear helmets and knee pads by law in 2025.

  3. Guns are easily accessible, yes.  That's why the speed checks and background checks are important.  More laws regulating gun ownership won't do a d**n thing, though.  That will just leave weapons in the hands of people who don't obey the laws to begin with.

I am a gun owner.  I carry a concealed weapon almost all the time (yes, I have a permit).  It has nothing to do with fear, and everything to do with confidence.  I will NOT be victimized, ever, so I have no need for fear.  But I certainly don't walk around with a "kill fantasy".

These kids being as twisted inside as they are, they'd have used whatever would have killed or maimed.  My question would be not how easy it was for them to get a weapon, but what possessed them to want to hurt that many people to begin with?

  4. another movie i would highly recommend is Zero day my personal fav movie , this is way better then Elephant and actually shows the kids Stealing the guns and making the bombs , as much as we'd like to control gun laws and keep guns away from children in a country the size of america with 300 M people , that means theres 300 M possibilities , not everyone can keep guns in a safe place , or hide a key without the child finding it , Same as how they cant stop them from buying them from someone on the street , Same as drugs u just cant stop it , Its to bad that these incidences happen such as school shootings but maybe the guns arnt the problem They are indeed a factor but the cause doesnt nessisarly lay firmly on the sholders of the easily assiable guns , Everyone points fingers and says its media , video games, gun laws , when really they should be pointing a finger at themselves , (the schoolboard i mean) why is it Children are shooting up there fellow classmates , in allmost if not all events of schol shooting the kids were under anti depressent influences , as much as they hype up anti depressants they shouldnt be on the market , and Especually givin to children , sadly theres to much money involved so who cares if some kids go insane on them at least the coorperations get a big phat paycheck
