I know it is an Ak47 with an m4 collapsible stock but It looks like shorter more compact version of the ak.

What version is that AK?

Would It be legal for a ex army Sergeant to buy a full auto version that looks exactly like that one in the vid?

  1. If you are talking about the rifle in the first part of this clip that Mac is holding, its the Israeli Version of the AK-47, (AKA: Galil).

There is another version of this rifle that is from Finland, its called the Valmet.

Both of these variants are very solid and accurate rifles.  They are NOT AK-47's as I have both in my personal collection, (Semi-Automatic Versions).  None of the parts are interchangeable with my AK-47.  The exterior look of these rifles is about the only thing that looks the same, but be sure that is where the similarities stop.  The guts of the rifle are completely different, and cannot be used by other variants of this rifle.

My AK-47 shoots like c**p when compaired to these other two rifles.  The Galil is every bit as reliable, and packs many other goodies as does the Valmet.  The AK-47 was the original platform, but Finland and Israel, took this rifle and made it even better.

If you can obtain one of these variants, you will be a very happy camper with the results.

I hope that answers your question, good luck and happy shooting.

    EDIT:

Randy is still wrong.  I have the same rifle in my Gun Safe right now.  Sorry Randy, its a Galil.  You had better get your ID's correct.  As with the AK-47, there are about 5 variants of the Galil.  This is one that I own.

  2. That depends on which weapon you're talking about.....the one that Mac is holding or the corner-shot.

The Corner-shot isn't even a long gun....it's a handgun!!! and it looks to be a Beretta model 96FS. I hope this helps.

  3. The only AK's I saw in the film were in the hands of the terrorists on the paper targets.

At the beginning of the film clip, the host was carrying an M-16 or CAR-15 with folding stock and a shorter than 16" barrel.

At the six minute forty second range, the assault rifle attached to the Corner Shot devise was stated to be a modified M-16.

If your "ex army Sergeant" friend wants to buy an M-16 he is going to have to climb very high off his wallet.  Going price for even a ragged, worn-out M-16 is passing $10,000 USD.  I seriously doubt that the Corner Shot Devise is going to be available on the Civilian Market any time in the near future.  If it does hit the market, expect it to be regulated very much like machine guns and silencers.

  4. its either a modified AK74 or a modified AKs-74u

  5. it is either an AKs74u or an ak74, and yes there is a difference.

  6. It's called Cornershot

Being ex military only makes you a present civilian and gives you no advantage on owning class 3weapons

You still have to go through the application and tax stamp process

But you can't have that gun because it was designed and built in 2000

Which is 16 years past the cut off date for new manufacture or import of automatic weapons

  7. That little rectangular dimple on the receiver just above the magazine tells you it's an AKM or an AK-74.  It is *not* a Valmet or a Galil.  The Galil receiver bottom is sloped....that one is parallel.  The Valmet mag release is entirely different.  Unfortunately, the receiver is all you can really be sure of....and only as to what variant it isn't.

The later AK with the rail on the dust cover is a milled oringinal AK-47.  The long rectangular divit on the receiver side says so.

Addendum:  Sorry, TS.  I've worked on at least a thousand AK's over my career, and while I don't have that much experience with Galil's, I know enough to say that's a machined receiver AK-47 or at least the receiver from one.

One obvious detail is the mag release.  The one on the rifle in the clip is obviously an AK, not a Galil/Valmet.  There's simply no reason why an AK mag release would be installed on a Galil/Valmet.  That's like restoring a 57 Belaire and switching out the door handles for VW Beetle parts.

If you'd care to post a pic of the rifle you own, I'd love to see it....but until then, that rifle is an AK.  If you can't post a pic of yours, then, please, try to find one on the web that I can compare it to.  If I'm wrong (which is seldom (lol, yeah, right!)) I'd like to know it and admit it.
