Gun law in Cal (10 points)?

Hey all. I'm really lost...I'm 18 years old, and i want to own a handgun. (its not safe where i live). California law says that you can only own long guns at 18, but a clerk at a gun store told me i could apply for a special licence at 18 to own a handgun.

Now my problem is this, i cant find ANY info on whether this is true or not, or how i would go about doing it.

So my question : Is there ANY legal (or maybe illegal :P) way for me to own a handgun in California?

Thanks in advance.

  1. California - State law restricts selling or giving handguns to juveniles under 21, and other firearms to juveniles under 18, except for supervised loans of firearms or for limited lawful activities (such as hunting).

  2. Federal Law clearly states that only if hunting you can carry a hand gun, otherwise as a concealed weapon it is illegal until you're 21. If it's not safe where you live... Move... If you don't have the money, go to your nearest Housing Urban Development office and they will happily relocate you and put you on a plan... You're not just messing with the California Government on this one but the US Government. I'll be sure to forward this request onto the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms

  3. Sorry Charlie, it's a no go.  Besides, you can't legally carry it anyways, why would you care about getting legally?

Get CA Gun Laws here: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/Cfl2...

It is unlawful for a firearms dealer to sell a handgun to any person under the age of 21 or any other firearm to a person under the age of 18. (Penal Code § 12072(b).)

It is unlawful for any person to sell any ammunition or reloaded ammunition designed and intended for use in a handgun to a person under 21 years of age. Where ammunition or reloaded ammunition

may be used in both a rifle and a handgun it may be sold to a person who is at least 18 years of age, but less than 21 years of age, if the vendor reasonably believes that the ammunition is being acquired

for use in a rifle and not a handgun. (Penal Code § 12316(a)(1)(B).)
