  1. The bolt does not need a special license.

Look into an Armalite AR-50. It will save you about 2 grand, and is just as accurate if not better.

You will need the extra cash for the ammo.

  2. Great weapon choice not such a great financial choice. Seriously get a Remington 700 in .308 or a M1A converted to a M21 or M25. These are excellent Long Range Weapons and can be customized to no end. A lot of ranges wouldn't even allow you to fire a .50cal. Jeez the best range I found around here only gets me back about 400meters.

I understand you got your heart set on it but try to get set on reconsidereing. I have spent thousands on guns that I just had to have only to realize that I didnt have to have them at all. I just wanted to shoot them a few times. I like my M1A and my Savage Model 10FMP. They work great for long range marksmanship.

  3. Since you've already got a variety of answers as to the choice of firearm, I'll give you some info on the second question. Check out www.wheretoshoot.org. They show ranges, gun clubs, and training locations. Just type in your zip code and it will show you several choices.

If you do get the Barrett, just think that every pull of the trigger translates to about $4.00. I hope you sight in faster than I do. :)

  4. Who said you have to have a class 3 license, The Barret is semi auto and has a lot longer than 18.5 inch barrel All you need is for it to be shipped to an FFL Licensed dealer, the dealer will then charge you for the transfer, and that is it. You do not have to wait, unless your state has a waiting period or a nnecessityfor another license. Class 3 is through the ATF so it is a Federal Gvt Agency, not state.

  5. The very first thing you need to do isstudy your gun laws

First that gun is not a Class 3 (Title2) gun

Secondly You do not need a Class 3 license to buy one even if it was, you need a Class 3 license to sell NFA weapons which this gun is not

You need a tax stamp to buy one

And yes as of now there is no legislation pending that will ban these guns on a federal level

But you can get similar guns at a much cheaper price, your your purposes

  6. Isn't the M82 a bolt rifle?, if it is the one I'm thinking of, then you don't need a class 3 to own it, just a lot of $, lol.  I can't imagine them banning this particular rifle, I'd be more worried about traditional "assault" weapons like the AR,AK, Mac's etc.  By the way, have you looked into how much ammo costs for that behemoth?, it'd be a really cool rifle, but for me I'd be just as happy owning a sweet custom .300 Mag, and I'd have a lot of $ left over to buy a really good scope, and lots of ammo, but I reload, well, if your'e set on the Barrett, good luck in getting it.

  7. Barack Obama has stated what was already known, he is anti-gun, and it is well known that he is most likely going to win the presidential race. This means two things the price will immediately go threw the roof and it will eventually be banned in some form.

See if you can buy it now on a lay-away plan or take out a small personal loan.

  8.      Mr. Barrett himself pointed out that a 6-7 foot long rifle isn't something you can tuck in your jeans and walk around with.

There is an entire shooting society for the 50 BMGs.  I'd save for it, get the permits and go from there.

The latest sale paper I have says that ammo for it is $400/110 rounds on the civilian market. I know the military doesn't pay our prices but, doctors and dentists are the only hobbyists that can afford that rifle out here.

On this link, check for a match director and phone number, possibly someone that runs these shooting matches can furnish more info.

  9. yea

  10. You don't need a class III for a Barret. It's not selective fire so as long as you aren't in California which specifically prohibits the Barret you are just buying a rifle.

You are going to need one helluva big range to do that weapon any justice. And I hope you have some money squirreled away for the ammo. .50 BMG is about 5$ a round. If you shoot one mag you're down 50$ for 10 shots.

    Good luck and Shoot safe.

  11. 1 You won't need a license to buy it.If you buy it online you just need to find a local gun shop to do the transfer. This will usually cost $25 or whatever your local dealer wants. The democrats want to ban them and they are illegal in California. If Obama is elected, I have no clue how long that gun will be legal.

    2 Try http://www.wheretoshoot.org/

3 That is one expensive gun to shoot if you didn't know.A good scope will also cost you around a grand. Also, unless you're hung up on the Barrett. There are many .50BMG rifles for much cheaper available.
