Question:

Gun versus needle on cartilage?

I'm getting my cartilage on the side/top of my ear pierced and I have a few questions. Are guns really as bad as some say they are? I've heard that they can shatter cartilage but I know a lot of girls that have gotten them done with a gun and theirs healed fine. It seems like it would be quicker than a needle but idk... Does getting it with a needle hurt? Also, if I get it done with a 18 gauge needle + hoop, can I still put in regular studs once it's healed? Any additional info would be much appreciated. :)

  1. gun is good to me.

no it doenst hurt as much as you think.

i had my third piercing done in end of june of this year and i thought it was extremely horrible feeling when you pierce it with gun but it wasnt. it only a little bit hurted for 1 second and THATS IT. only the one second. you can handle it. :)

not everyone when they get their piercing with a gun has infection/problems with their ears you know.

probably not for you because what are the chances? very little.

  2. Guns can not be sterilized fully, where as a needle from a body piercer is and all equipment used by them is sterilized. So I'd go with a needle any day.

  3. Definitely get your helix piercing done with a needle.

Guns just force a blunt object through the cartilage (which can shatter it and cause problems), where-as a hollow needle will slice a little piece out... In my experience, needles hurt LESS than guns.

You should be able to switch from a hoop once it's healed fairly easily. ^___^
