Gunners and Red Devils eying nothing less than a Premiership title
After Arsenal successfully subdued Barcelona’s interest in Fabregas, they are now looking forward to the upcoming season with the objective of ending their trophy-less drought. Arsenal were in the news before the start of the season as their captain Fabregas was ardently pursued by the Spanish giants, Barcelona but Arsene Wenger has successfully managed to retain his nucleus of the team, at least for now.
Fabregas, who trained at Barcelona’s famous youth academy, was hunted by his former club after his impressive performance in the World Cup 2010. Even, Fabregas talked about moving to Nou Camp after the World Cup but somehow Wenger convinced the Spaniard to stay at Emirates as Arsenal aim to land their first title since 2003/04 campaign. Talking about Fabregas’ stay at Gunners, Arsene Wenger said, “I always said Cesc Fabregas will be our captain next year and that we want to keep him. Despite all the speculation last season and the whole summer, nothing has changed.” Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal recently lost to AC Milan and Celtic as they prepare themselves for the upcoming season.
Wenger believes that Fabregas has the ability and the potential to steer his team to ultimate glory in football. He said, “It is important we focus on the targets we have together. There is a great attitude and spirit inside the squad and Cesc Fabregas can help us achieve these targets. He is now at an age, 23 years old, and he has just won the World Cup. I believe he will grow in authority again for next season.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s defender and Fabregas’ national team-mate Carlos Puyol asserts that Arsenal is trying to keep Fabregas against his will. According to him, if Fabregas wants to leave Gunners, then Arsenal should not come in his way. However, Arsene Wenger is in a completely different mood as he focuses on the upcoming season.
He challenged Fabregas to prove that he is champion when he leads his team onto the field. He said, “There are all kinds of situations, but I believe what happens after is that when a player stays it is about how much he focused on playing football. It is always in the interests of the player to perform. If he is a champion, he goes on the football pitch and wants to be the best he can. All the rest is a poor excuse for a football player.”Arsenal will be hampered at the start of the season as they will miss the likes of Fabregas, van Persie, Abou Diaby, Denilson, Alex Song and Nicklas Bendtner.
On the other hand, Sir Alex Ferguson will be happy about the future prospects of his new signing Hernandez after the Mexican scored in the friendly against his new club. Hernandez scored against United in the first half for his old club Chivas Guadalajara in a match between two outfits. Hernandez later played the second half in United’s colours. Hernandez, who also played for his national team in World Cup, started the match in perfect manner as he scored the goal in the 8th minute. Manchester United struck back with Chris Smallin scoring two goals to take the score to 3-1. Nani scored the consolation goal in 79th minute as the match ended with a score of 3-2.
Hernandez was the centre of attention in Mexico and was even given standing ovation when his name was read out. He responded in perfect manner as he became the first player to score at Chivas’s new stadium. In the second half, he came in place of Berbatov as he started his career for Red Devils. Sir Alex Ferguson will be looking to depend on Hernandez to reduce goal-load from the shoulders of Wayne Rooney in the upcoming season.
With few days left in the new season, both Arsenal and Manchester United are looking positive to provide stiff competition to Premiership Champions Chelsea.
