My Mother is a retired first grade teacher. My daughter is in Kindergarder and my mother volunters at the school telling stories to the class. One of her stories has a bunny running from a hunter ...and the hunter carries a gun and tries to shoot the bunny. In the end he in safe hiding inside. Anyways the story involes hand motions for the children and at the gun part they make a gun with their hand. Well the teacher said no we can't do that and made my 73 year old mom stop the story. I think that was overboard. What do you think?

  1. That is being too PC.  Eventually those kids will learn the truth about guns.

Tell your mother thank you for being a teacher.

  2. There is one set of tree hugging, protesting, peace signing parents out there that would make the principal's life h**l if they caught wind of their child doing that in school.  For that one set of parents, they choose not to let the kids do it.

  3. Ya, i think its overboard. For crying out loud, what does the teacher think that Elmer Fudd does with his rifle when he chases Bugs Bunny?

  4. Political correctness strikes again.  We had less gun violence when we grew up playing cowboy, and cops and robbers.

In rural areas, boys used to bring a rifle or shotgun to school and hunt on the way home.

  5. The school have to follow a guide line in what the students should be learning in school.

This is a serious matter that parents who are concern about this subject  can bring it up to the teacher and the school principal. That's why the schools want the parents to be more involved in their childs' school to voice their concerned.

Some parents are not comfortable with the teacher bringing  this subject or other touchy subjects out  their and prefer not to exposed their child with this sort of thing.

The schools try to accommodate with the parents demands as well as the district's and state law, they try to keep a balance while following the state law.

Your mother is not a teacher anymore, and should be aware of the  school rules and should of taken in consideration that what may have been acceptable in her time may not be acceptable by today's standards.

I side with the teacher on this one, she had no right to bring this subject out with out  getting approved, after all she is a volunteer in the school and even volunteers should followed school rules.

This is not a required subject to learn, but if you feel the need to bring this subject to an open discussion in a classroom then by all means bring it up to the principal.

If you think that this matter was blown out of proportion than  talk to the principal.
