When I turn off my bike (2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 500) it makes a sound like a gunshot. What is that? Is it something with the exhaust? The carb?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. back fire... caused by the ignition turning off before the motor has stopped turning ... therfore unburnt fuel in the cylinder.. when the valve opens as the motor slows.. the hot exaughst ignites the fuel...

  2. That's a back fire, unburnt fuel is being ignited in the hot exhaust pipes.  You probably need a tune up and carb adjustment.  New air filter, spark plugs, and fuel system cleaner work wonders.

  3. Try this first: Run all the gas out of your Motorcycle then put Hioctane hitest gas and one bottle of gas treatment then take it for a highway ride where you can burn off fifty miles or more without stop and go.  If you still have the problem take it to someone to look at the carburator.
