The German legend has tipped Die Mannschaft to win the European Championship to be held in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032 next month.
Germany will compete with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 on June 9 as the team looks to capitalise on the sensational qualifying campaign
which saw them win all the 10 games played.
Netzer claimed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 are certainly one of the favourite teams to win the competition and admitted that the side’s brilliant performances over the period of the last two years have gained them the tag.
However, the former Real Madrid player warned the Germans against complacency and insisted that qualifying from the group stage will not be a walk in the park considering the other three teams involved.
“The fact that we're among the favourites is the reward for years of excellent performances. The group stage will be very tough and we'll only get through by focusing 100 per cent on the task,” he was quoted as saying in an interview
to Bundesliga’s official website.
The 67-year old expressed his delight on the return of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miroslav-Klose-c26049 to the squad before the competition. He admitted that the players will have ample time to train with the squad after the duo missed several
games through injury.
Netzer further added that even if the two players are not fit in time, the team has great depth and there are already some impressive replacements for them.
“It's good that they joined up with the squad right from the start and can participate in the entire training program. Joachim Low's staff will be keeping a close eye on their situation and other players will have to step in if
they can't make it. There is enough quality in the squad to compensate for them,” he concluded.
Gunter Netzer was part of the successful West Germany side that won the European Championship in 1972 and the FIFA World Cup two years later. He has also been named the ‘German Footballer of the Year’ on two occasions in 1972 and
1973.
