The former West Germany international has insisted that the manager does not deserve the recent criticism after a successful European championship.
Die Mannschaft were knocked out of the European championship after their loss at the hands of Italy in the semi-final. The Azzurri won the game 2-1 courtesy a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 brace as the team dominated the Germans to reach the
final, where they eventually lost to defending champions Spain.
Netzer claimed that the recent talk of Joachim Low’s sacking is unfair after all he has done for the national side in the last few years. He insisted that Low is a brilliant tactician and has developed a great team since he took
over in 2006.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder stressed that the Spanish team was also criticised for playing negative football during the tournament but once the team secured the title, the talk ended. He hailed the Spanish team
for playing some sensational football in the competition and admitted that the side deserved to win Euro 2012.
“I think the heavy criticism of the coach is excessive. I think it's absurd to call all of his work into question now. I think highly of him, even after losing in the semi-finals. There was, however, a lot of criticism levelled at them, and especially Del Bosque.
In the final match in Kiev, they refuted everything,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Netzer stated that Die Nationalelf lacked firepower when they took on Italy in the last-four clash. He added that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 looked like a totally different team in the semi-final from the side that performed brilliantly
in the previous four games of the tournament.
“The team was on their way, but in the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926, they weren't strong enough. They weren't clever enough in this match, and accordingly they were well beaten,” he concluded.
It was the fourth consecutive time in competitive competitions that Die Mannschaft failed to secure silverware after reaching the semi-final stage. The side lost at the same stage in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and were runner-up
to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in the 2008 European championships.
