Netzer insisted that he was delighted after Low named the squad as the young players who deserved a chance were included in the provisional squad. He claimed that the talented youngsters have all performed brilliantly in the Bundesliga
and they thoroughly deserved to be named for the European championship side.
The former German international added that the selection would be a great message to other youngsters and it will certainly give them motivation to perform even better.
“I was pleasantly surprised, if you can call it a surprise. Joachim Low called up young players who caught the eye through their performances in the Bundesliga and deserve the opportunity to play in such an important tournament.
That's a wonderful message to give young players and it shows that Low has confidence in them,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Bundesliga.de.
Netzer then went on to praise Joachim Low, claiming that the manager has done wonders for the team in the last few years. He admitted that the tactician has given regular chances to young players which has changed the face of German
national football.
“If you want to be successful internationally you need quality in every area of the squad and that's what's happened under Low in the last few years. That's obviously beneficial for the national team,” he concluded.
