The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder believes that Bayern Munich are lucky to avoid Barcelona or Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final.
Gunter Netzer reckons that Bayern Munich must be relieved after the Champions League quarter-final draw as they have been paired with Olympique Marseille. He stated that the Reds are fortunate enough to have avoided http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 or
Real Madrid in the last-eight and it should not be hard for them to deprive Les Phoceens of the semi-final spot.
The former midfielder applauded Bayern’s efforts so far this season and tipped them easy winners against the Ligue 1 side. He opined that if the Munich giants continue their impressive run and do not tinker with the line-up, it
will be extremely hard for Marseille to get better of them in both the legs.
While addressing a local sports publication, Bild, the 67-year-old further added: "When you reach the Champions League quarter-finals and are drawn with Olympique Marseille, you can only say: it could have been much worse."
Netzer claimed that Bayern have improved significantly since the winter break and could easily rip apart any side considering their current form. Having scored 20 goals in their last three outings in all competition, Netzer tips
Bayern as overwhelming favourites to progress further in Europe.
However, he still urged them not to relax against Marseille and show their top game keeping in mind a possible semi-final clash with Real Madrid.
The former West http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international encouraged Bayern to fight until the very end and try winning at least a trophy at the end of this campaign. He believes that the Bavarians are capable enough to secure silverware whether it
being at the European or the domestic stage.
"Bayern have shown themselves to be a functioning team. Now it is necessary to substantiate this impression in the coming weeks. For Bayern players, it must always apply that they want to win everything. And if they do not get
everything, they aim for the rest," Netzer concluded.
Bayern will next face Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Cup semi-final on Wednesday, March 21, before hosting Hannover on Saturday, March 24.
