The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has blasted Chelsea for their negative approach against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Former Borussia Monchengladbach and West http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international, Gunter Netzer, has slammed Chelsea over their negative approach in the Champions League. He thought that the Blues were totally defensive against Barcelona in the
second-leg of the Champions League semi-final which saw them winning 3-2 on aggregate.
The Stamford Bridge outfit qualified for the final of the European competition just for the second time in their history. The last time the Premier League side played the final, they lost to Manchester United on penalty shootouts.
Netzer mused that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo’s side were extra defensive on the night against the Catalan giants which eliminated flavour from the game. He claimed that the Blues will not be successful with this kind of approach in the
final against Bayern Munich and advised them to change their defensive mentality.
In one of his columns in local sports publication, Bild, the 67-year-old further added: "http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 eliminated Barcelona with some terrible football, and Bayern have to be prepared for a similar horribly defensive performance in the
final. I can only condemn Chelsea's style of football. If this kind of football becomes fashionable, I might never go to a stadium again.”
On the other hand, he stated that the teams must change their psyche while playing important games. He suggested that the teams should make the game interesting and entertaining by playing attacking football and then winning the
game will be more of a refreshing result.
"I could never support a philosophy that only cares about the result. For me, the combination of playing entertaining football with exciting individuals and being successful is always the ultimate goal,” Netzer concluded.
The German twice lifted the Bundesliga and the La Liga crown with Monchengladbach and Real Madrid and led Hamburg to the three Bundesliga titles as manager in 1979, 1982 and 1983. Netzer now hopes to see more attacking approach
especially from Chelsea in the final where they will take on the Munich giants at the Allianz Arena on May 19.
