Guo Kai overwhelms Nan Wei in Men’s Singles qualifying round – China Open Update
Men’s Singles expert Guo Kai alarmed all the contestants of Li Ning China Open by overpowering Nan Wei in his opening match of qualifying round on November 13, 2012.
However, it was not an easy win for the Chinese campaigner as he had to sweat hard for three exhausting sets to register a favourable result of 21-14, 18-21 and 22-20.
This hard fought tussle, staged at the local badminton arena of Shanghai, prolonged to one hour and six minutes before reaching a climax.
The young but talented Guo Kai relished full benefits of home ground to oust the opponent. He had a huge support of the local crowd throughout this crucial tie.
He kick-started his expedition by claiming seven consecutive points immediately in the beginning and then left his competitor far behind with a significant margin of 11-4.
Later part of the game also belonged to the Chinese campaigner as he did not make even a single mistake and stole the limelight with a lustrous performance.
At first, Guo Kai strengthened his grip with a seven-point lead in 17-10 and then swept the table by placing an overwhelming figure of 21-14.
The second set completely changed the scenario as Nan Wei put a commendable effort and brought the contest to right balance.
This time he did not repeat previous mistakes and made amends with a staggering knock. His dominance in five establishing rallies proved the decisive factor in this crucial game as the native shuttler never come out of the deficit.
Nan Wei, who was representing Hong Kong in this tournament, finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11 and then made best out of this advantage to put a convincing margin of 21-18.
This development subjected both contenders to a tough trial and they put an extra effort to pocket this final match point.
They challenged each other in all areas of the game and kept the audience intact until last shot was played.
Finally, this neck and neck competition ended when Guo Kai sealed a splendid win with 22-20 score on the board.
