Guo Ong, Loo Lim surge into second round of Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012
Mixed Doubles team of Malaysia, Jian Guo Ong-Yin Loo Lim paved their path to the second round of the Malaysia Open GP Gold after overpowering Thitipong Lapoe-Punyada Munkitchokecharoen in first round on May 2, 2012.
The scratch pair Guo Ong-Loo Lim stayed at the attacking end throughout the 55-minute game and emerged victorious after putting decisive figures of 21-19, 16-21 and 21-19.
In opening game of the match, both teams displayed prime badminton skills and earned great deal of admiration.
Though, the Malaysians gained a notable lead by placing 10-5 total in just few minutes but their opponents Thitipong and Punyada narrowed the gap with 11-9 until mid-game break.
After the interval, they chased each other and stayed equal with 17-17 score on the board but at this breath-taking situation Guo Ong-Loo Lim added two crucial points in their total which ultimately helped them to reach at a decisive margin of 21-19.
The Thai campaigners stormed back in very next game and tipped the balance of the match in their favour. Their coordination was superb against the newly formed local duo.
Mixed Doubles experts Thitipong and Punyada got into commanding position with a decent three-point advantage but their challengers Guo Ong and Loo Lim caught them at 8-8.
At this position they proved that their defence is as strong as their attack and put their rival’s expedition to halt by five consecutive points. Their opponents never came out of this deficit and knelt down after reading final figures of 21-16.
However, best part of the match was yet to come as both contenders mesmerised the crowd with their blistering performance in the third set.
The decider opened with an immediate supremacy of Malaysian pair who bagged first four points and then raised their total to 11 in first half of the set.
After the mid-game break, Guo Ong and Loo Lim registered their mark with some unbeatable rallies and reached at 18-11 but it was not a smooth ride all the way as their competitors put them in test by clinching seven crucial points.
However, the natives passed this trial with a close yet decisive 21-19 score on the board. Now they will lock horns with Liu Yi-Ting Ting Thng of Singapore in second round of the event.
