Question:

Guppies, Platies, Dwarf Gouramis?

I used to know these things but not so much at the moment.

I have a new 40 gallon tank and would like to know what fish would be compatible with 3 male guppies, 4 female platies, and a pair of dwarf gouramis?

I do not want more platies

No neon tetras

no goldfish (not practical anyway)

I would like to add a few more fish and either a school or 1 bigger centerpiece fish

any suggestions?

I saw a question on here earlier similar but it only had 4 answers so didn't help me much.

  1. I always loved Bala sharks they are a good community fish but they grow big and possibly too big for a 40 gal.

  2. if you are just trying to fill the tank gouramis come in a ton of different varieties maybe drop a few non carnivorous snails a fresh water shrimp or two and call it a day

  3. There are many varieties of tetras you could try, also zebras come to mind as great community fish..Hatchet fish, Angel fish too.
