ok ive been trying to breed guppies for a long time. i have a trio. just yesterday one of the females gave birth. today im pretty sure the other one dropped some, but has some more in her. what temperature should i have in the tank (10 gal) temp that will suit the fry and the adults? there's probably 15-20 in there right now. the adults show no interest in eating them, because i feed them frequently. thanks for your help!

  1. The temperature should be in the room temperature not too high and not too low .... it does not mean that you feed them frequently they would not eat their young it will still eat them unless they are too big..

  2. I agree with the person who said 10 gallons is too small. Right now the fish are very small so it should be fine but 15 to 20 adult guppies will be pushing the limits. If your going to keep breeding guppies then consider investing in a larger grow-out tank for the fry.

To answer your question about temperature, live-bearing fish like guppies prefer the temperature to be between 72 and 79 degrees. I suggest keeping it close to the warmer side of that scale.

  3. why would you breed them in a 10 gallon tank, you better have a place to put them. I got over 100 guppies in a few months. guppies are very hardy, so the temp should be the same it wont matter

  4. I'd say keep them between 77 and 80 degrees.  A word of caution though - just because they adults are well fed does not mean they won't try to eat the babies, so be prepared.  Fish usually try to taste anything moving.  (Haven't you seen them run for each other's p**p only to spit it out when they decide it doesn't taste good?)  Sometimes they take things into their mouths even when they aren't hungry.  It's just an evolutionary reflex.  Fishermen are able to catch fish with those big, glittery, flowing lures because fish try to taste EVERYTHING.

They might not eat the babies, but they can definitely wound them.  If you haven't witnessed any baby chasing yet, count your blessings.  If you want to get into serious guppy breeding, separating the fry from the adults is a must.

  5. As long as there isn't a drastic change in the temperature you should be fine. You do know they breed like crazy. I hope you have another tank set up for the fry when they get big enough. 6. The temperature for ur adult and baby guppies is 70-80 degree farenheit (20-24 degree celcius). The temperature should be kept that way because guppies are tropical fish  and they cannot tolerate low temperatures.

Try to remove ur baby guppies, theres no chance that ur adult guppies will eat them, no matter how much feed ur adult guppies, they will definately eat the baby guppies. So try to remove them and put the baby guppies in a different tank. Until they are big enough u can put them with the adults.

PS: If u want u can still put ur baby guppies with the adults and the survival of the fittest will survive. For more information search the internet on guppy breeding.

  7. I'm pretty sure about 70 degrees, but don't take my word for it.
