  1. Zoe is right, but in addition to the fat belly, their tummy will have a dark spot inside called the gravid spot, that enlarges slightly as the babies develop. This is another sign of live-bearer pregnancy.

    For example:

  2. Breeza has obviously never heard the term livebearers...

The first sign is that they're will be a dark spot on her belly, just before the tail (The gavid patch). This will darken through out the pregnancy. (Chances are if you're guppy has been in the same tank as a boy, she'll be pregnant.)

Also, as the pregnancy progresses you're guppy will get fatter. When a heavily pregnant guppy is next to a non-pregnant female, you'll easily be able to spot it.

When the guppy is getting close to giving birth, they'll start spending more time in a quiet area of the tank.

Have a look at this link for some fantastic info about the stages of guppy pregnancy :-)

  3. their would be a large black area near her belly, seperate her from everyone else till she gives bith thn seperate her from her baby's [she'll eat them] then feed the abys crushed tropical flakes

  4. Guppies are not Asexual.  Asexual reproduction does not require any kind of fertilization.  Fish reproductive systems include testes and ovaries.  Their reproduction requires a transfer of sperm.  This is sexual reproduction.  Most fish are oviparous, which means that the eggs develop outside the mother's body.  In most of these fish, fertilization happens outside the body.  In ovoviviparous fish like guppies, the eggs are fertilized internally and are carried within the mother.  The mother then gives birth to live young.

As for how to tell if your female guppy is pregnant....

After your female guppy is fertilized, a dark spot near the a**s known as the gravid spot will start to enlarge and darken.  Your guppy will also start to look bigger, she'll get rounder and her abdomen will become distended.  Near the time of birth, the guppy will likely isolate herself if possible to avoid harassment from other fish in the tank including active males.

Gestation generally lasts an average of 28 days.

While guppies can give birth to between 2 and 100 fry, a young guppy will likely give birth to between 2 and 25 fry.  As the guppy matures, she'll give birth to more and more fry.  After giving birth, the female guppy is able to conceive again within only hours - and can store sperm in her body.  This means that after mating with a male, she can give birth several times after only mating once.

Unless your tank has several places for your baby guppies (fry) to seek shelter, it is important to separate them from any larger fish during their development as any other fish (including their own parents) will eat them.  I myself have seen a mother eating her young AS they were coming out of her.  You may want to consider obtaining a breeding container.  This clear plastic container floats in the top of your tank, isolating the mother from the other fish while she gives birth.  It may have two chambers in it, separated by thin slots.  These will allow the fry to escape into the lower chamber from their hungry mother.

  5. well fish dont get pregnent lol, they are A sexual that means the feamle fish lays eggs and then the male fertislise the eggs. youll know cuz there will be eggs on the bottom and the water will be murkey.

  6. Same way you know other animals are pregnant...they have fat bellies! The belly will look like it's going to pop the last few days TRUST ME YOU'LL KNOW! When this happens you may want to put her separate. They make guppy breeding things to keep them separate so the mom and adults don't eat the babies. Low, growing dense plants give babies a place to hide too. Good luck! My sister bred guppies as a kid, it's pretty easy once you have everything! Have fun!
