I'm new to guppy breeding. I have two beautiful white and blue male guppies and two reddish tail females. I have dense cover with live plants. I was thinking ahead and was wondering how I will be able to culltivate them to give most of them away.

  1. Well first of all I would get 2 more females. Even though you will have a lot more fry, you are supposed to have 1 male for every 2 females. Otherwise if there are not enough females they will get stressed and abort the fry and pregnancy. I would also get a breeder tank or a lot more bushy plants. Live plants aren't the best because in order to keep them alive you need to have the light on a lot. They also die easily. If they die then the fry won't have anywhere to hide. I like the fake bushy plants better. With the breeder tank you can put 2 females in there at a time. Only put them in there when they are squared off. That means the area by the gravid spot looks squarish. They will have their fry and most of them will survive because they will fall to the bottom. If you can't get a breeder tank then get a lot of FAKE bushy plants. I would get a breeder tank though. It is better to be safe than sorry. Leave the female in there over night because they don't have the fry all at once. They sometimes take breaks. In the morning take her out and feed the fry 3-4 times a day. When they are 3 weeks old you can feed them 2 times a day like the adults. When they are bigger than the adults mouths then you can release the fry into the tank.

    Good Luck!!!!
