Gurusaidutt tames Iskandar Zulkarnain in second round of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG
Men’s Singles player R. M. V. Gurusaidutt continued his unbeatable run in the second round of Syed Modi International India GPG and marched into pre quarter-finals on December 19, 2012.
He cast out Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin of Malaysia by registering a favourable result of 21-8 and 23-21.
This tussle took place in local badminton complex of Lucknow, India and Gurusaidutt relished full benefits of home ground to oust the opponent.
He had a huge support of local crowd and the young shuttler did not disappoint them. He wrapped this showdown with a straight-set victory and gave them a solid reason to celebrate.
Gurusaidutt, who holds 12th spot in the tournament ranking, showed great maturity in his craft and alarmed all the contestants with an amazing knock.
He made his intentions clear by launching an intensive attack in the beginning of first set. He did not lose focus at any stage of the game and finished this segment in commendable manner.
On the other hand, the inexperienced Malaysian campaigner looked confused throughout this set and remained at the lower end until concluding stage.
In first half of the set, Gurusaidutt did not wait for the right moment and smacked his rival down with a staggering knock.
He established an unassailable lead before the interval and then transformed this initial advantage into a winning margin of 21-8.
This timely win proved a real boost for the Indian shuttler as he played with even more conviction in following set.
However, it was not an easy win as Gurusaidutt had to put an extra effort to seal a straight-set victory.
Iskandar Zulkarnain also showed his brilliance in the game and earned great deal of respect. This time he did not repeat previous mistakes and stood toe-to-toe until the game point situation.
The Malaysian player finished first half of the set with a respectable score position and remained close on the points table even after the one-minute break.
This segment of the showdown kept swinging between both contenders until last shot was played and finally this nerve-racking tussle ended with Gurusaidutt’s victory.
He setup his pre quarter-final clash with Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif by putting a decisive score of 23-21.
