The Bayern Munich midfielder has showered praise on his side after their win in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final over Los Blancos.
Bayern Munich defensive midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luiz-Gustavo-c22844, has expressed his delight after his side registered a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final. Both sides met on Tuesday, April 17, at the
Allianz Arena with Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez scoring goals for the hosts whereas Mesut Ozil bagged a vital away goal for the visitors.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gustavo-c15404 mentioned that the Reds had intense training sessions prior to the game and were determined to upstage the Spanish powerhouse in the first phase. He enthused that Bayern played extremely well throughout the game and Ribery’s
opener set the tone for rest of the game.
The 24-year-old stated that Los Blancos were lucky to score but claimed that the Reds still have the edge over their Spanish opponents. While talking to sports website, Goal.com, the midfielder further added: "I am very pleased
with the team's performance. We were determined to win and everybody worked very hard for it. Real Madrid were lucky with their goal. Our late winner gives us the edge, though.”
On the other hand, Gustavo urged his side not to be complacent in the second-leg of the fixture. He stressed that the pressure will be on Madrid but fears that Bayern might end up on the wrong side if they do not respect their
opposition which can be deadly at home.
"But it will not mean a lot as Madrid will be desperate to beat us. We have to be extremely focused in Madrid. It will be a very difficult game. Winning was very important. However, we really wanted to keep a clean sheet as well,"
the Brazilian concluded.
Bayern are currently one step away from playing the final of the European competition which will be played at Allianz Arena on May 19. They will travel to Santiago Bernabeu for the second-leg on Wednesday, April 25.
The Munich giants are also fighting for a top place finish in the Bundesliga and currently find themselves eight points short of Borussia Dortmund with three games remaining in the competition. They will return to the league action
on Saturday, April 21, against Werder Bremen.
