The Argentinean midfielder/winger is excited by the prospect of Europa League football in the coming season and believes that
playing the pre-season games will help the squad prepare for the coming challenges and serve them well.
Gutierrez also spoke about the team spirit and morale, and believes that all the free time in between practice and games will help the new signings settle in and allow the players to bond. Gutierrez claims this sort of team spirit is the reason why Newcastle
were so successful last season.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the player said:
"It's good for the group to get the weather and to enjoy these days when we have an afternoon off and can be all together. It's so important for the group because in the season, we have to be all together.”
"The group is the most important thing. It's about the group and it's about the spirit. It was really important for us last year - we had a really strong team spirit and a lot of players who came in and did really well, so we have to keep going in that way."
The Argentine also spoke about the coming games against Braga and Olympiacos. Gutierrez said that both teams are big in their country and have had decent success in Europe, which is why a victory against them will be an achievement for Newcastle.
"We have to keep going. We have three-and-a-half weeks until the start of the season so we have to keep going, try to improve and try to be better in fitness. That is the most important thing about pre-season."
