Guus Hiddink: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have made no official offer
Turkey national team coach and one of the candidates to take up the manager’s job at Chelsea, Guus Hiddink, hinted that he was considering taking up the manager’s post at Stamford Bridge.
The London side have been left without a manager after the sacking of Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti.
The former AC Milan manager was punished for not being able to deliver any silverware, after a highly successful first season.
Ancelotti led Chelsea to their first ever double in the 2009-2010 season and in doing so became the first foreign manager to achieve the feat in his first season at the club.
However, his second season at the Bridge did not turn out quite as expected and after a terrible mid-season slump, the Blues finished the season trophy less.
With Ancelotti gone, Chelsea are now looking for a replacement before the pre-season friendly matches begin.
With a host of managers previously linked to the post, the management at Chelsea seemed to have narrowed down their options.
The likes of Jose Mourinho, Andres Villas Boas, Marco van Basten, Marcello Lippi, Harry Redknapp and Pep Guardiola were all linked to the Chelsea hot-seat.
It has emerged recently that Hiddink is currently the favorite to take over as Chelsea manager.
The Dutchman went on to express his desire to manage a club again, admitting he would take the Chelsea job if a concrete offer was made.
He did mention that he was currently focusing all his energies on the upcoming 2012 Euro qualifiers, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 on Friday.
It comes as a surprise that Chelsea have not made an offer to Hiddink, as yet, considering the fact that he seems to be willing to take the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
According to Hiddink, he has not received an official offer from the London side, which means he will be continuing his role as the Turkey national team manager.
Hiddink said while speaking to reporters:
“I never told anybody that I was going to continue working with Turkey.
I feel energetic and I like working every day. I feel I need to do more, so a club role is more preferable than coaching a national team.
I haven't told the president of the Turkish FA. But he is an intelligent man and I'm sure he follows the world's media. There is no official offer yet, so I cannot guarantee anything.”
Among the various managers linked with the job, Hiddink is the best suited, having previously managed Chelsea as a caretaker manager in the 2008-2009 season.
Hiddink took over the manager’s job as a favor to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich when manager Luiz http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari was sacked mid-season.
Even though he had a short spell with the Blues, barely three months, he led an out of form squad to an FA Cup finish.
Which is the reason why he is considered one of the best manager’s the club has had in recent years and is currently the favorite in the Blues search for a manager.
