Guus Hiddink denies telling Chelsea to buy Wesley Sneijder, distances himself from Premier League side
Turkey national team manager Guus Hiddink revealed he had not advised English Premier League side Chelsea to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder.
The Dutchman has been linked with taking over the manager’s position at Stamford Bridge, after former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti was sacked at the end of the season.
Hiddink has emerged as the favourite after days of speculation, having previously managed the Blues as a caretaker manager in the latter part of the 2008-2009 season.
Despite having a limited time with the London club, Hiddink managed to lead Chelsea to a FA Cup trophy in an otherwise disappointing season.
With 20 days gone by, the longest in recent times that Chelsea have been without a manager, the Blues are desperate to land the services of Hiddink.
However, he is currently contracted to the Turkish national side and the Turkish FA do not seem to be willing to let him go.
Even after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 revealed they were willing to pay £4 million in compensation to secure the services of the Dutch manager.
Since then there have been rumours linking Hiddink to the London club, with the most recent one suggesting the Dutchman had told Chelsea to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799.
Hiddink revealed he had been busy after the 2012 Euro qualifier against Belgium, he said while speaking to reporters:
“After http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850-Turkey [last week] I went to South Korea. I did not go on holiday; I went to one of my projects in the country where I worked during the
World Cup of 2002.
I do a lot of work for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charity-c38784 there.
I am busy creating lots of pitches, in particular for handicapped people.”
He insisted he had not urged the Blues to sign fellow countryman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 international Wesley Sneijder.
Hiddink confirmed the English Premier League side had not made an official offer, which is why he was not considering the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
The Dutchman continued:
“When I got back to Europe I was confronted with all sorts of stories, saying I had told Chelsea to sign Sneijder.
I am not making a fuss about any of the other stories, but I have to make it clear there has been no contact between the club and me in the last couple of weeks.”
The Dutch manager revealed he was focused entirely on leading Turkey past the qualifying stages of the European competition.
He said:
“I have enough on my plate trying to get http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 to the Euro finals.”
This latest statement seems to make it clear that Hiddink will not be taking over the manager’s position at Chelsea.
This means the Blues need to start looking elsewhere and soon. The other candidates for the position are Mark Hughes and Marco van Basten.
