Guus Hiddink hints at Chelsea return, skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 praises the Dutch manager
Guus Hiddink, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 national team manager, revealed in recent press conference that he could be leaving his current post by the start of the next season.
The Dutchman has been linked with a return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 after the sacking of Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti, leaving the Blues manager-less once again.
Among the various managers linked with replacing Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge, Hiddink has emerged as the favourite to take over the Chelsea hot-seat.
The 64-year-old had previously rejected speculation regarding him leaving the Turkey national team http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 to take over the London side.
However, he has recently hinted that he could indeed be taking up the manager’s post at Stamford Bridge.
Hiddink said in an interview:
“I still have a contract with Turkey but at my age when some issues come up, you always have to talk about them. At my age, most of my story is behind me.”
Hiddink, who managed Chelsea for about three months in the 2008-2009 season, could be making a return soon.
He made the announcement of a possible return after Turkey drew 1-1 with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 in the 2012 Euro qualifiers.
Hiddink asked the media to respect his decision, whatever it may be, claiming he would decide after returning from holiday.
The Dutchman said:
“I hope you understand that this is difficult and I need people to respect that.”
Chelsea skipper John Terry admitted the squad would welcome Guus Hiddink, with most of them having played under him.
The short while that he was in charge, Hiddink led an out of form Chelsea team to an FA Cup trophy finish.
He is considered one of the best manager’s Chelsea have had in recent years, which is why he is the favourite to take the job.
During his short reign at the Bridge, after the sacking of Luiz http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari, Hiddink lost just one Premier League fixture.
Even if he had gone on to win all the remaining fixtures it would not have ensured an English Premier League trophy.
The fact that he managed to lead Chelsea to a FA Cup trophy proved that he was capable of handling the super stars at the London club.
The Blues centre-back revealed he considered the Dutch manager was currently the best option to take over as manager.
Terry said:
“He would come in and hit the ground running. He knows what the players are about, what our strengths and weaknesses are and the training schedules.
Everyone would say the same thing. He's a good guy. The players completely respect him.
He brought a lot of stability. He was understandable and approachable as well, but, no one messed with him.”
Having finished a particularly disappointing, trophy-less season, Chelsea could really use the managerial brilliance of Hiddink.
