Guus Hiddink’s agent denies Turkish FA’s president’s resignation to have any effect on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 decision
Many Chelsea supporters were rejoicing on the news of the resignation of Turkish FA President Mahmut Ozgener, assuming that meant that the chances of Guus Hiddink taking over the Chelsea manager’s post had increased.
The Blues are in desperate need of a manager, having sacked Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti at the end of last season.
The former AC Milan boss was shown the door for having failed to deliver any silverware last season, despite leading the London side to their first ever double just a season before.
After days of speculation, Hiddink emerged as the favourite to take over the Chelsea manager’s position, having managed the Blues before.
Hiddink took over as caretaker manager in the last few months of the 2008-2009 season, after Luiz http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari was sacked.
In his three months in charge at Stamford Bridge, Hiddink managed to lead an out of form Chelsea to an FA Cup finish.
Apart from that, he is known to be on extremely good terms with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, which is why he is thought to be the favourite for the Blues manager’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.
However, Hiddink’s representative Cees van Nieuwenhuizen revealed the resignation of Ozgener as the head of the Turkish FA did not have any bearing on Hiddink’s position as the manager of the Turkish national side.
He said:
“I really have no idea.”
Hiddink’s representative did not feel the departure of Ozgener would change Hiddink’s decision on remaining with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 national side, he continued:
“The contract is with the Turkish Football Federation and not the individual president.”
The fact that Ozgener had decided to retire, a close friend of Hiddink and the man who had appointed him as the Turkish side’s manager, did not mean Hiddink’s contract with the Turkish FA had ceased to have effect.
As things stand, Hiddink is still contracted to the Turkey national team and the Blues will have to make an offer for him, which the Turkish FA will decide if they want to accept.
Van Nieuwenhuizen was asked if the Dutch manager was upset by the retirement of his colleague, he replied:
“Guus is somebody who can accept the facts of life.”
