According to Guus Hiddink’s agent, the Dutch manager was first choice for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss.
The Blues appointed Villas-Boas some 30 days after sacking Carlo Ancelotti and reports that they were attempting to secure the services of Guus Hiddink.
Hiddink, who had previously managed the Blues as caretaker manager in the latter half of the 2008-2009 season, refused the position this time around because he was contracted to the Turkish national side.
Even though he was tempted by the offer, Hiddink insisted on honouring his contract with the Turkish national side.
According to the Dutchman’s representative, his client had been in constant touch with the Blues owner Roman Abramovich over the manager’s position at the London club.
However, Hiddink had politely refused, maintaining he wished to remain with the Turkish national side until the end of his contract.
Hiddink’ agent said while speaking to reporters:
“Every now and then they talk, they [Hiddink and Abramovich] see each other, and Guus would say: 'I have a contract so it's no use considering a position for me at Chelsea.' I think Abramovich has respected that position.”
He revealed that his existing contract was the main and only reason why he had turned down an attractive offer from the Blues.
His agent continued:
“When he signed with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 he realised he would be in this position in principle through at least to the European Championship, so he's a professional.”
According to Hiddink’s representative, the Blues were not the only side that were interested in signing Hiddink.
Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti had revealed that he wished to appoint Guus Hiddink as manager of the Serie A side.
After sacking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056.
Hiddink’s agent revealed:
“[Inter president] Massimo Moratti also mentioned last week that he wanted Guus Hiddink, and Guus has already been connected in the past a couple of times, related to big clubs, not only Chelsea.”
