Guyana thumped by Bangalore in CLT20 clash
The thrill and excitement from cricket’s shortest version continues in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 as the leading club teams from around the world aim to win the Champions’ League T20.
The tournament features 10 of the leading clubs representing seven leading cricketing nations.
The CLT20 is a great opportunity for some of the upcoming players to make a name for themselves at the international level as well as learning the intricacies of the game.
This was the case on Sunday night as the Caribbean Guyanese were taught a T20 lesson by the Indian, Royal Bangalore Challengers in a lopsided encounter that was played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
RBC Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn would make life tough for the Caribbean team.
This was precisely the case as the young Guyana batsmen struggled to make runs with ease. After a 17 run opening stand, they lost opener Tim Dowlin who skied a catch to Steyn off Indian swing bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Praveen-Kumar-c82600. An over later, Guyana was dealt a body blow when their best batsman Sarwan had his off stump cart wheeling by Jacques Kallis.
Sarwan, who has captained the West Indian side, smacked the ball before his dismissal for a glorious six over extra-cover.
After his departure, it was a slide for the Guyanese as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Narsingh-Deonarine-c78681 fell in quick succession, leaving their team tottering at 59/4 in the 12th over.
The going got tougher for the islanders as they limped to 103 all out with the last wicket falling on the last ball of their allotted 20 overs.
The innings was held together by Barnwell who scored 30 off 35 balls, striking two fours in his 54 minutes stay at the wicket. It ensured that his team crossed the three figure mark.
The rest of the batting was a real disappointment as Kallis and Kumar shared five wickets between them, ensuring an easy chase for Bangalore.
The chase was hardly going to bother the RBC outfit which had two of the finest batsmen of the modern game at the top of the innings in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Dravid and Jacques Kallis. The duo eased into the total, scoring quick runs without taking much risk at all, making the chase look ridiculously easy in the process.
Dravid fell for 33 off 34 balls which included three hits to the fence. He was the only wicket to fall as the batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 was cleaned up by Esuan Crandon.
Kallis and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-Uthappa-c2356 combined to take Bangalore over the line in only the 13th over of their innings. Uthappa struck two sixes and two fours, scoring 25 runs off only 8 balls to pulverise the islanders.
Kallis was adjudicated as the man of the match for his outstanding all round performance, which helped Bangalore make a big impact at the start of the tournament.
After the match, Kallis said that he was delighted with his comeback from a back injury. He said, "I was coming back from a back injury so couldn't put too much work in the lead-up. But we have got fantastic preparation. Credit should go to Ray. We got good nets, good net bowlers."
The Guyanese captain Sarwan conceded that his team was thoroughly outplayed by a better team yet cited lack of experience as one reason for their abject surrender. "Majority of them have never played in these conditions, and it is a learning experience. But we really need to learn fast. We need to”, added Sarwan.
