Guys: Do you prefer the girls to make the first move?

Ok, so i really, really like this guy that i've known for a year and a half. He's just turned 26, i've just turned 18 and basically everyone knows we've liked one another for the past year and a half but nothings happened because he had a girlfriend. He's recently broken up with her and all my friends are now pestering me to make a move, but i don't want to because 1. he's just gotten out of a relationship and 2. if i make the first move, it may seem like i'm desperate. I'm very old-fashioned with my values and have always preferred the guy to make the first move (which i still will do in this case) but i would just like to know if you guys care or not if a girl asks you out or makes the first move.

You should just say, "Now that you are single, we should hang out sometime."

Then it really isn't the first move. It is an invitation for him to make the first move. He would still be obligated to ask you out first, and it will be easier for him since he knows you are interested.
