Question:

Guys and Cheerleading...?

I am helping coach a squad of H.S. cheerleaders at a school that hasn't had cheerleaders in more than 5 years. We have one enthusiastic guy cheerleader, and about 10 girls. We could really use more guys, but living in the rural area that we do, it's a newer concept for guys to participate. I have a couple more guys interested in "helping", but they don't want to be CHEERLEADERS. They won't cheer on the sidelines, but will sit with the coaches and get the crowd fired up. They will also do building and possibly tumbling for floor cheers and half-time performances. I would like suggestions on what they can do to support the cheerleaders and team, and suggestions on what to call them besides CHEERLEADERS. Help!!!!

  1. you could have them be called cheer managers. and they wont cheer they would sit off or the would walk up and down the bleachers and  be all fired up and  start i guess you could say cheers but be like "LETS GO [YOUR SCHOOL]" LETS GO!"  like stuff like that they could have there face painted the schools colors and  when it comes time for them to do the half time show they would come down and do the half time show  you them more for lifting and tumbling not so much hand motions and cheering. hope i helped

  2. tumble more and do more stunts. cause really guys wanna be seen like thier strong so do alot of one mans and bow and arrows basket tossesw and stuff like that so it seems likw the guy is doing all the work. rember that guys like to seem all mucho and strong.

  3. At our school we had sort of the same situation, lol but not really. We needed guys for mounting, so we called them the lift crew. So if you mount you can call them the "Lift Crew" but they could still do floor cheers, routines, and tumbling. I think that sounds more masculine than them being called cheerleaders.
