  1. Just be yourself. Don't be too nervous, or you'll fail too.

  2. I didn't fail, but I was close!  I made a couple of mistakes on the driving part of the exam.  The problem was, I made 4 mistakes, but they were actually two mistakes that I made 2 times each.  The instructor didn't tell me after I made the mistake the first time, so I did it again.  And he took off points each time.  -10 more points and I would have failed.  The mistakes I made were not actually turning around to check my blind spot when I changed lanes (I just used the mirrors).  The other mistake I made was stopping on top of and not behind cross walks at stop signs. I was supposed to stop behind the cross walk, check for pedestrians, and THEN ease up to the actual intersection.  So make sure you pay attention to detail!  But being relaxed is one thing that will help you the most.  Also, be prepared for whatever car you'll be taking your test with.  Make yourself familiar with the car.  Be sure that you can quickly find the headlights, horn, and wipers, blinkers, etc.  They will have you turn all this stuff on before you leave the DMV and you don't want to be fiddling around trying to find stuff.  Don't make the mistake of becoming distracted by anything either.  Like, even if you're tempted, don't look over at the instructor while you're driving.  And make sure your cell is turned off before you leave.  Even if you've already done it all beforehand, adjust your mirrors and stuff like that before leaving too.  Good luck!  If you've studied the handbook and practiced, I'm sure you'll have no trouble!  Just to give you another example of a reason someone has failed:  My friend failed her test the first two times because even though she didn't make any mistakes, the instructor felt she was too cautious (of all things!) and thought she needed more experience.  It was because she was really nervouse.  She overcompensated by accelerating really slowly, turning too slowly, things like that.  So try to seem confindent, even if you are really nervous!

  3. make sure you keep your hands at the ten and two position. Read and reread your books. Practice alt and have someone quiz you on the symbols. Good luck and don't worry so much. Think positively

  4. Basic Driving Tests are usually booked every half hour. Out of this 5 min. is spent asking you for I.D., checking your vehicle's lights are working (brakes, signals), and your knowledge of instruments and controls inside the car.

You then take a drive with the examiner for about 20 min. to see that you can maintain control and drive within the speed limits, turn corners, park on hills and parallel park. This is the portion of the test I think you are most worried about.

The test consists of several basic skill-testing manoeuvers.......left turns, right turns, in residential and commercial areas, turns at lights, lane changing, school and playground zones, stop and yield signs....

Each error cost you a few points. There is a maximum number of errors you can make before you fail. Let's say a perfect score is "0"......each minor error is worth 10 points......where I live a person taking a basic driving test may score up to 75 points after which they fail the test. If they do something unsafe (cutting off a vehicle for example), or illegal (rolling stop at a stop sign), that may be only 10 points on your test score, but it's an automatic FAIL........

I prefer to refer to failing a basic driver's test as a "deferred success", because you will eventually pass, won't you?

The examiners are not TRYING to fail you.......YOU have to prove to them that you are safe on the road and are  in control of your vehicle at all times. This is a basic test and you will be nervous, so become familiar with the vehicle you will drive on that test and develop your skills and confidence to the point where you are READY.....

Now, things which are common errors on basic road tests....?

    1.  Wide right turns (always turn into the closest available lane going in your direction).....

2..Cutting left turns. (when turning left from a two way street to another two way street, bring your front bumper up so that it's level with the closest curb of the street you are entering, staying right of the center line, WATCH for oncoming vehicles and pedestrians....shoulder check to the left and look up your path of intended travel while making your turn.)

3.Incomplete stops........make sure you STOP!! Automatic fail....

4.Driving over the curb on a right turn or while parking (you could hit a pedestrian)....automatic fail here too!!

5.Speeding.....examiners are very strict about this, especially in school and playground zones......do a few under the limit to give you room for error....

    5. Driving too slow..........if you obstruct traffic by braking before lane changing or pulling into a curb lane to stop or park, you will fail.....depending on weather and traffic and road conditions, you should stay within 5 miles of the speed limit posted. Of course you may drive slower if the above conditions limit your speed.

    6. If you are legally allowed to make a right turn on a red light where you live, make sure you come to a complete stop before turning, and only turn if it's safe to do so. Also watch that light..usually if you are behind the crosswalk or stop line when the light turns yellow you MUST stop....

I hope this helps you.........remember too, that LUCK is when preparation meets opportunity....

  5. my brother swore i would fail as all his friends did.

he failed , the instructor said he didn't drive fast enough to know if he could drive or not.

when i took mine the instructor told me to keep two hands on steering wheel, if he had to tell me again, he would flunk me.  i glued my hands on and passed.

just practice and calm down, you'll be fine.
