  1. Practice, practice, practice, and remember, that most venomous snake bites occur when people are trying to handle them without he proper equipment. So basically, you'll be out in the middle of nowhere (I'm presuming) handling venomous snakes with no equipment and risking a bite doing so. Most of the time if you simply let a snake (venomous or not) know you're around, they'll vacate the premesis without having to be caught.

  2. watch youtube video's of snake catchers you might actually learn a few things but still its not wise to try

  3. haha dont do it,,, if you really must, get a stick, press its head into the ground and hold him very firmly just behind his head so he cant bite ye

  4. Do you have a death wish?

Leave the snake alone. If you are camping and you see a snake, keep away from it. If you're poking around, trying to catch it, that's when it's going to be biting you.

  5. Good on you Jim....

the snaks have had enough of humanity ...  they are in enough danger already...  there are TOO many folks with contempt as is...

I say let them be...  the world is a better place with them in it..

Life for them is hard enough with out some kid with an attitud and little respect/

  6. I STRONGLY recommend not doing it, but the best way to pick up any snake is to gently lift its tale up while leaving most of the body(The snakes "chest" and stomach area) on the ground.  become one with the snake and let it feel like your not a predator.  The snake feels more relaxed when its body is still on the ground.

Then using your peripheral vision (keep your eyes on the snake at all times) grab a stick.  Place the stick under it's body and lift it.  Keep the snake as far away from your body as possible, and watch the snake in case it strikes at your hands.  slowly move the snake to it's location and let the stick down carefully, let go of the tail and move away quickly.

NEVER grab the snakes head or neck!  It hurts the snake, and it is such a small target that the margin of error is great so it is very likely to get bit while doing this.  let the snake milkers do this.

note* if the snake seems to aggressive, call a professional.  don't be afraid to let your pride take a hit.  it's better than losing your life.

hope i helped, and I hope you don't do this ;)

for the people who think I'm helping you catch a snake.....I'm not.  I can't stop you from trying to handle a snake, but i'll give you some knowledge only so you don't hurt yourself, or hurt a snake (Please don't hurt one, i like them more than most people).  And it is to my knowledge that you are not trying to KEEP a snake, I beleive you are moving one out of harms way from your campsite.

  7. No you don't.  You need to learn to leave them alone.  Believe it or not, snakes are protected by laws.  So just leave them alone.  If one comes near the camp just scare it away.

Edit:  I am dismayed by the comments helping someone do such a thing.  Any reasonable person would not do so.  Wild animals need to be left alone.  A potentially dangerous animal even more so.  Most wildlife is in a general decline in America.  Humans interfering and capturing them is part of the reason.  Most animals taken captive by people get sick, hurt or die.

Leave the wild to the wild.

  8. You are going to need a few things from the local Ace Hardware.  First, buy a dowel rod.  Make it at least three fingers in diameter.  Buy two eye hooks and some 20 ga stranded wire.

At the tip of the dowel rod, (drill a hole) and insert one eye hook.  12 inches from the other end, (drill hole) and insert other eye hook.  Attatch wire to end eye hook permanantly, loop thru that hook and bring it thru the other eye hook.  (Poll with a loop at the end).  '

Catch the snake just behind the head in the loop and pull the other end of the wire tightly thru the top eye hook.

This also works for coons and possums.

    (Coon catcher)

  9. watch steve irwin then practice with non venomous then try not to die

  10. Use your hand. :)

  11. yes,  after negotiation  and satisfied them <come on deal with them>

  12. You do not NEED to catch a snake. Once you are advanced enough in herpetology to have a legitimate reason for collecting venomous snakes, you will have a snake hook or tongs with you when you are out in the field. Until then, leave them alone. You live longer that way.

  13. in MY oppion i think a live trap works the best!!!!!
