  1. There are FBOs that are certified to fill flight oxygen cylinders, but most are not.  Your FBO may know where you can go, or you can look in the yellow pages under "medical oxygen."

  2. yes

  3. There is medical grade oxygen and industrial grade oxygen.

But either way the local machine shop does not have the required equipment to safely top off the O2 tank, so no they can not refill it.

  4. NO

  5. Since this is an aviation forum I assume you want oxygen for flight.  The answer is not only "No", but "h**l, NO!"

Aviator's oxygen has to come from a qualified source.  It has specific requirements for purity and moisture content.  Unless you're happy inhaling stray contaminants at altitude or having your oxygen line freezing its moisture content, plugging the line, and leaving you breathless.

Aviator's oxygen costs more.  Probably because your life depends on it?

  6. If it is for welding you would need to do a tank exchange at a welding supply company. Breathing oxygen is sold through Home health service businesses. They are not one and the same.

  7. There is also liquid oxygen, like what's used on the c-130's and other military aircraft...(not that this answers the original question)

  8. Oxygen is the same wherever you get it but there is one important distinction:  Aviation oxygen has a much lower water content than medical or welder's O2.  You'd have a problem if you got up to altitude and found your air valve frozen shut.  Some pilots use welder's O2 because its cheaper.  I wouldn't recommend thawing the valve with a lighter though!

BTW medical ox has a HIGH water content.

  9. i'm not sure what your asking exactly...but if your asking if you refill your o2 tank as in your breathing tank....then no absolutely not!!!! i'm a nurse, that is not possible~!

  10. NO!!

The mechanic will have industrial grade oxygen .. for welding etc.

To breath, you want Medical Grade oxygen.

    The difference can kill you.

  11. I am assuming this is a tank for breathing, such as for emphysema.

      NO  NO  h**l NO

1)It is illegal for your local jackleg mechanic welder to do this

2)It will kill you. There are no filters or safeguards to prove this is pure Medical o2.
