Guys with no old fashioned manners?

Question

Am I the only one who watches movies like Top Hat with Fred Astaire and wish that modern men were still that gracious? Stand up when you leave the table, help you out of the car, etc. etc. They just don't make em like that anymore! :(

i'm like that... but you don't know me...  They do make them like that you are just not seeing them.

I guess that's the downside of women being treated like people and being entitled to equal rights under the law.

However, there are still gentlemen out there and I find that the more ladylike I behave, the more of them come out of the woodwork.  I am lucky enough to have one around full time too.

Actually, they do still make guys like that...it's just that if you open the door for 100 women, 50 will say thank you and the other half will berate you for acting like she can't do those things for herself.  No way to tell in advance which group a woman will fall into.  It's just not worth trying anymore.

Of course, I'm just talking about doing those things for strangers.  If it's for a friend/girlfriend/wife, yeah, guys should do that stuff.

Well, I'm personally glad because of it. The loss of men being gracious is because women are now on fairly equal terms with them. It's more like men today are around their buddies than a complete stranger when it comes to women.

Or at least that's how I see it.

well my boyfriend pulls open the set for me and opens the car door he's really nice

I for one agree with you, but I also think you are looking in the wrong area.  I've worked in country clubs diners since I started working.  There are still men like this and ladies alike, who carry themselves in a manner that is rather "elegant" and "old fashioned."  However, these ways are rarely taught to the children of these individuals.  Yes these individuals are a dying breed.  You can however find these qualities in some people who work in these establishments.  Good luck, but I will have to agree with you for the most part.

Last year, my religion teacher had the boys help us girls take our coats off in the fall and winter, take our chairs down and put them back up (the chairs were left on top of the desks--we had class in a school classroom), and help us put our coats back on at the end. She tried to get them to have good manners. It does feel good when a guy opens a door for you or stuff like that. Stuff like that does happen in real life sometimes, though. :)

no, you are not the only one, and it is not that they don't make them like that anymore, it's that the radical feminist movment has made it that way. i think the problem is that so many women see guys doing this as an insult to them.  I think if a guy opens a door for a girl, its not because he thinks she can't handle it, its because he is a gentleman and that is the proper thing.  Its not a symbol of disrespect, but rather a symbol of repspect.  women can complain all they want about guys treating them without respect, but that's not going to change unless we change the way we act about them helping us.   the book, Dressing with Dignity, written by Colleen Hammond, has a great story about the son of one of the author's friends.  once he opened the door for a woman who asked him if he was opening it for her because she was a woman.  he answered, 'no, I'm doing it because I'm a gentleman.'   guys out there who treat girls and women like ladies, keep it up!  don't get discouraged by the ones who don't appreciate it like they should!

I hear you! Gracious, I can learn to like the most obnoxious of men if pulls out my chair for me! But I understand that guys don't even know what to do because some women these days take offense, and i don't know why. It's not because they think we are weak or something, it's just polite!
