hey everyone! on friday i signed my contract for 4 years with the US Air Force. When i met with the job counselor he told me i had to list 4 jobs and out of those four jobs, they will pick one for me that would be available. so i did... and in the order i picked them was 1.- Cardiopulmonary Laboratory 2.Diagnostic Imaging 3.- Intellegence in communications 4.- Command Post. when i spoke to my uncle whos been in the airforce for about 25 years and he is an E-8 about this he was really mad cuz he said i should have sticked to one job and not let them pick one for me. What do u guys think about this jobs?? my uncle told me that i will surely not get the medical jobs... (which btw i was really interested..) because they are full. and that i would most def get the one of the other jobs... and btw he said this jobs were good. because since i am into the medical field . he thought it was a very bad move i made by signing the contract that would allow them to pick the job for me. anyways... i would really appreciate your responses. thanks in advance. byeee xoxoxoox (

  1. You made some good choices, but I agree with your uncle, you should have just picked the ones you want.  If they didn't have any positions available, you could wait for an opening.  That being said, medical would be best, because it translates very well to the civilian world when you get out (after either 4 years or after your retirement).  I have heard that you are very marketable when you get out due to the great training you get.  I was in inrelligence and really liked it.  I have also heard the command center is good too!

Good luck and thanks for serving!

  2. the 1st 2 are best as far as getting a civilian job when you get out; however, I think all are pretty good.

  3. It sounds to me like they were giving you a choice. If you want a job in a medical field, ask for one. The worst thing they can do is tell you no, in which case you tell them no.

  4. xoxo? Any who  Just pick the jobs that you want to do.  You'll eventually get medical.  May take you 10 years, but you'll probably be over 27 by then and the airforce wont want you. I had 13 jobs on my list.  So pick as many or as little as you like.  And make sure you'll be intrested in that job.  I've heard of people failing out.  Some get sent back (i think those who are trying for special forces) but regular jobs like the ones you listed, you'll be looking into the army.  Best of luck

  5. If you don't like your job, I think you can cross train in 3 years. Command Post is a cool job, that's basically the nerve center for the base. Intel is a hard job to get because of the background check. The medical careers are hard to get into off the bat, but you'll eventually get in.

  6. Fine choices.

If you want medical, tell them you won't ship until a slot opens up. When one does, ship out for BMT. It's that easy.
