Gwladys Nocera leads the ISPS Handa Portugal Ladies Open
French golfer, Gwladys Nocera led the first round of the ISPS Handa Portugal Open after posting an eight under par 64. The 35-year-old matched the course record on the Campo Real Resort and Spa course north of Lisbon. She made six birdies and one eagle and
is paving her way for her 11th Ladies European Tour title.
Taking a putting lesson from her coach Olivier Léglise over a video-link on Skype, the player credits him for her improved putting for the amazing round. South African player Ashleigh Simon and Stacy Lee Bregman are sharing second place with Australian player
Sarah Kemp.
"I have a big putting carpet and I put it in my living room. I put the camera on and we just worked on it," said Nocera. "When you shoot that kind of score you don't make many mistakes and I putted really well. Last week I struggled with my putting and I
saw my coach; we worked on it and it's getting back into shape."
The player played really well as she made a birdie on the fourth and fifth hole. Posting another set of birdies on the seventh and ninth hole, Nocera really set the golf course on fire. Making the turn at four under par, the talented French lady carded another
birdie on the eleventh hole.
Making a birdie on the fourteenth hole, Nocera finished with a bang as she posted an eagle on the eighteenth hole. Having a flawless round in the first day, the player is in a secure position as she now has a two-stroke lead over the second placed trio.
Just two strokes behind, Kemp, Bregman and Simon played well in the first round. Kemp made five birdies, one bogey and an eagle in the opening round. As for the 2007 Catalonia Ladies Masters Champion, Simon made eight birdies and a double bogey on the fourth
hole. Meanwhile, Bregman had four birdies and an eagle on the fifth hole to be at six under par overall.
All in all, with so much talent on one field, the ISPS Handa Portugal Ladies Open will surely be an interesting tournament to follow.
