Question:

Gym Underwear?

Hi,

I have been working out at Gym for a couple of months. I started with Treadmill, Elliptical and Cycling. Now I am doing a bit with ADDUCTOR, ABDUCTOR and a similar one for the arms.

I am wondering whether I should wear any special underwear in order to avoid injuries and diseases. I mean something like Compression shorts, supporter etc.

I would appreciate your advice on this please.

Thank you.

M

  1. You'll be fine just wearing a firm-fitting boxer-brief.

  2. Contrary to popular opinion tighter underwear isn't necessarily better.  Here too is a preference driven thing.  Some guys, myself included, are just fine doing things at the gym in boxers (I need the room).  Others would prefer to strap things down.  Any blows to that area and it won't matter if the underwear is as loose as boxers or as tight as a jock (only a cup will make a difference).  Trauma is trauma.

I would reccomend things that handle moisture well.  A number of athletes seem to like things from Under Armour available in everything from boxers to compression shorts with built in jocks.  Others like Patagonia, and Ex Officio.

  3. get a jock
