Gymnastics? Whats wrong with it?

Any comments on why Gymnastics isn't such a popular sports - as in to a wide range of people?

good question. i think it is more interesting than any sport but soccer, my guess is that the rednecks dont want to be seen at a "girly" sport, even though they know it is very interesting

Expense, gymnastics is very expensive due to the equipment and venues needed.

Also to be competitive in gymnastics you have to train very long hours at a very young age.

Gymnastics is seen as girly by some Australians and this can put boys off.

Lack of venues in many areas, many people simply don't live near a gym club.

An unhealthy fixation by the governing body on elite gymnastics to the detriment of building the sport at a grass roots level.

i love gymnastics

but some ppl would rather have a life then work out at a gym for 5 hours a day!

Time, money, and variety

Many girls these days have other sports they want to or can do and those sport take less time and money. Many guys find gymnastics to be girly and uninteresting and they grow up playing soccer and football. Many people don't have 1000 dollars a month and 5 hours a day to spend in a gym with no sense of getting anything back.

Gymnastics is an incredibly expensive sport to invest in. In addition, the lifespan of a gymnast is relatively sport compared to other disciplines. Most gymnasts hit their prime at 17-18 and most have to stop competing in their early 20s
