  1. One of my daughters started gymnastics when she was 3.  She went to the Little Gym for a while, but I didn't like how disorganized they were for that age group.  It was too much play time.  She was in real gymnastics by the time she was 4 and loved it.  Was doing handsprings over the vault and everything (I think this was an exception for a 4-year-old, though).  Just find teacher who has experience with preschoolers.

  2. Where I do gymnastics they have mommy and me classes for the really little ones.

  3. I bet your daughter would LOVE it.. i have a son and he's 3.. he actually LOVES getting up and moving when I do my workout videos at home haha.. anything climbing/moving/dancing/jumping.. go for it!

  4. She'll be ready. Almost all places let you go in for a test class, which can help you assess what level she should be placed in. I think 3 is the age when most places have the kids in a class with just a teacher. Under 3, and it's basically just a mommy & me class. If she's very patient and follows direction well, she might be better suited to the structure of the older class. The younger classes are kind of just like run around fun time.

Costs vary. Most places I called cost ~$250 for two or three months of classes. We're members of the Y, and the class costs $80 for two months.

  5. I  Don't think she is too young.  My little one started at 2 with mommy and me classes.  She loves it.  We are practicing our butterfly sits and tumbles.   She really likes it.  I did it with my son too and he wasn't as keen.  You have to ask other moms in your area for a good place and names of good teachers.

I think it is a good idea if it is fun at first, and like play, they are young and being physically is good for kids.

  6. No its not.  I am a big fan of gymnastics for toddlers.  My oldest and middle son took classes that were 19months -2 and a half, and the 2 and a half -3 classes.  My youngest is going into the younger class.  The price does seem a little high.  My son is going to the Little gym.  It is a 20 week session, 45 minute classes 1 day a week.  The cost is 340.00 dollars which works out to be 17 dollars a class.  It is great for socialization, following directions, and strengthening.  The kids many have been going for awhile and are a bit advanced.  It is not unusual to see kids who can hang on the parallel bars and bring there toes up to touch there feet, or to catch a ball before the age of 2.  It is great preparation for pre-writing skills as it helps develop fine motor areas as well.  I am really happy with the Little gym, but I have no intention of having my son pursue gymnastics as a sport, its more to encourage his overall development.

MELISSA A. the little gym has classes for really little ones.  These are all mommy and me classes.  The bugs class is 4-10months, birds is 10-18 months, beast is 19m-2.5yrs
