Gymnastics or anyone who can do it: How do I do a backflip?

I can picture myself doing it and I know I can, but I can't. Right when I get to around like 180 to 360, I see the sky and I fall straight down.(trampoline) I don't get a chance to turn. I think its fear. Probably is. How do I get rid of it? Any help?

  1. the fact that you see the sky means you're throwing your head back. if you throw your head back that means you'll arch and rotating will be really difficult. you have to try to keep your head in a neutral position. usually gymnasts who have trouble with back tucks are trying to flip too early. first you need to set (get height in a straight body position) then tuck your body into a ball and rotate. fear is always an issue too. maybe first try doing them off a level into water or if you can get to a gymnastics club work on them into a sponge pit. but really there isnt too much you can do to get rid of fear. you just have to do it.


  2. Ok yea common thing people say. When your on a trampoline you will still make your flip around even if you are throwing you head back. Instead of pulling your knees tightliy right into your chest keep them in a looser tuck and keep pulling them up and over your head not staigt into your body. This will make you flip faster. You can try and keep your head in but, for non gymnast, that makes it a bit scarier. Just find something to look at in front of you and stare at it as long as you can. Good luck and dont worry you already got the guts up to flip.  

  3. YOU FIRST GET DRUNK AND THEN YOU GO ON THE ICE.you will have the hang of it after five minutes.

Im not a gymnast but i learnt how to do a backwards walk over with a wall.... i had my back facing a wall and bent backwards touching the wall and walked my hands down until i touched the floor -  it also helped flexiility in my back... i just keep doing it until i lose fear and get used to it also stretch ur back first so u dont do damage... but the safest way to learn gymnastics is to learn at a proper gym with professionals...
