Gymnasts vertical leap or the floor's bounce?

pause the vid at 1:30, is the floor helping her spring that high or does alicia sacramone have like a 70 inch vertical leap?

  1. The floor isn't giving her as much height as you think. It's got a bit of a bounce in it to prevent shock as she lands and to give a little extra height. But the height of that leap comes mainly from the run she does at the beginning, it propels her into the air rather than here using the floor like a trampoline. It's such an impressive skill to have!

  4. Yes the floor is springed as I have experienced my self.

    Yes she has great leap but also she is upside down at that point. What happens is she flips and her head is in the same spot but her body is over her which makes the jump look even bigger.


  5. There is a specific amount of "spring" on the floor. This adds to loft and absorbs shock (reducing injury) during landings.
