I am planning to move to Toronto in sometime with my wife. She is expecting right now and we would be requiring frequent visit to gynecologist. We do have a private insurance but that is not cashless. Wanted to know what is typically the expanse for a single gynecologist visit?

  1. really hard to say you might want to call one up .As most residents have OHIP here and it is covered by ohip

I know at the special pregnany program I go to their has been foreigner who pay out of pocket themselves to go.

After having a twin pregnancy and a second one I am at Mount Sinai considered one of the best hospitals in Toronto for pregnant women ...you can search for their info oin the internet should be easy to find call them up and they will give you the info after you explain it to them

  2. If you come to Ontario the Govt. insurance (OHIP) covers you after 3 months from your arrival date. You have to depend on other insurance till then. Please bear in mind that no travel insurance covers you for pre-existing conditions. Pregnancy is one of them. So make sure you buy an insurance which specifically includes all that.

Consultation with a gynecologist may cost you $100 - 150 in NORMAL case plus the costs of any tests.

If you have a job with a Company you can check with them if their insurance provides for medical cover.

Quite frankly, If you are from India and do not have capacity to take care of these costs, it may be a better idea to have the pregnancy in India. The facilities in India are very good. and much cheaper. Your baby will qualify for immigration once you are a permanent resident here. So depending on the time you have on your immigrant visa you can choose to once come here get the permanent resident card and then your wife or both of you can go back and have the baby there in India. If the delivery is going to be after 90 days of your arrival then all costs after that are covered.

  3. well if you want to move to Canada and your wife is pregnant you will save a lot of money by getting covered by OHIP. Getting the citizenship status can take longer than the pregnancy but landed immigrant  status takes I think 6 weeks, i think. Once you have this you can get a health card and then you don't have to pay to see a specialist. But if you want to just pay the bill and not taxes but use what real Canadians pay for then your looking at a good wad of cash each visit, depending who you visit maybe 100 bucks maybe less maybe more.

A gynecologist is a specialist so they would cost more than a gp.
