Question:

H-D 98 sportster . Rattling in front end in lower gears. Squeeze front brake it stops. What gives?

Front brake works but rattling gets more common.What needs to be repaired or replaced? Any help appreciated.

  1. Above answer sounds good.

    If you have front brake replaced just make sure its not as tight as rear brakes.

    Use rear brake and not front brake only.

    It can flip you and beleive me road rash is NOT fun.

  2. Sounds to me like you have a perfectly running HD.

  3. check to see if the front caliper, rotor,  or brake pads are loose, that is probably the only thing that will cause the symptoms you describe......

  4. If your brake parts are tight please jack the bike up and check the whole front end for tightness in the neck area. If you're loose and/or bearings are shot it's VERY dangerous.

  5. Brake pads are loose,Replace the pads and make sure the anti rattle spring is in place or properly shimmed. Different vehicles, all different makes of Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles have different types of anti rattle  built in. If you leave it out the brakes will still work but they will rattle.
