Hi, I am getting this from a buddy tomorrow and i am just curious would this be decent for a home theatre system? I doubt it will be groundshaking or fantastic but i just want it to have good clear sound and will go up at least a lil loud. Is this receiver right for me?

  1. Free recievers make the best recievers.  Harmon Karmon make a fine product.  It is their lower model but it does have some kick.  It offers several of the newest surround sound dolby, DTS, etc.  It will be a great start to setting up your new sound system.  It will be incredible loud with the right speakers.

If your building your surround sound from scratch heres where i would spend the money.

Center channel - most money besides reciever 80% of all the words come from this speaker.

Sub - Nothing makes you feel in the movie then this.

Fronts - more money you put into this the better your music will sound

Rears - these can be any speakers you have laying around as they are rarely used to their potential.

  2. You will want a timbre' match set of speakers otherwise you will have a hard time re-eqing everything to make up for the different frequency responses of individual speakers.
