H.P. Beale & Sons. I am trying to find why they shut down. Located in Courtland, VA.?

I live fairly close to this plant. It appears to have been a meat packing plant and a slaughter house. I am just too curious and I need to know why they shut it down. It has been shut down for quite sometime now.. You can tell by the condition of the building.

I have been searching around on line and other than finding out stats about the company, and that they were a slaughterhouse/meat packing company.. I cannot find anything. There was one website that had some information on it that I did not have access too because I am not on a campus or in a library. The site was jstor.org I believe.

  1. The building was old and needed upgrading. It would have been very expensive. They closed it and moved to another site in Virginia.
